Oasis @ The Ryman
What more can we say? Oasis. Ryman. Not exactly a match made in heaven. But whatever. Of course, the odds are pretty even that they don’t actually play the show.

Sunday, 26 March 2006Oasis @ The RymanWhat more can we say? Oasis. Ryman. Not exactly a match made in heaven. But whatever. Of course, the odds are pretty even that they don’t actually play the show. Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins @ the Belcourt TheatreJenny Lewis, originally known as Hannah, the cute red-headed girl in Troop Beverly Hills, and more recently known as the cute red-headed girl in Rilo Kiley, will now be known as the cute red-headed girl with a solo career that draws comparisons to the likes of Loretta Lynn and Neko Case. Lewis plays the Belcourt Theatre this evening with The Watson Twins, who also appear on her January solo debut, Rabbit Fur Coat. Doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m. Wednesday, 22 March 2006International Pop Overthrow Showcase @ The EndTonight is the final night of the Nashville installment of the International Pop Overthrow Showcase, so if you’ve been wondering if you should attend or not - this is your last chance. Here is the schedule: 7:30 Billy King Tuesday, 21 March 2006International Pop Overthrow Showcase @ The EndThe best part about the International Pop Overthrow Showcase would be that each night there is at least one band that you are probably already familiar with. With that knowledge in mind, you will be able to attend the show with a guilt-free concious about spending that $6 entry fee that the rest of the bands are hopefully in the same league. Here’s tonights schedule: 7:30 The Junior League Sunday, 19 March 2006International Pop Overthrow Showcase @ The EndHas anyone noticed that the International Pop Overthrow Showcase is still going on? Hope so, because there’s a good solid three days left of it. Here is tonights schedule: 7:30 The Injured Parties Minus 5 @ Mercy LoungeMinus 5 will be playing at the Mercy Lounge with the lineup of McCaughey, Peter Buck, Bill Rieflin and John Ramberg. The band will be supporting the “The Gun Album” which was released in early February. Download “Twilight Distillery” from the Yep Roc site. Reviews of this record include phrases and terms such as “chamber rock”, “sublimely soulful electrified busker rock”, and as having a “guest list indie rock wet dreams are made of.” Saturday, 18 March 2006The States / Lylas / Gentleman Callers @ The BoroThe States bring their Animals-meet-Television rock to The Boro tonight. They’re joined by local Kinks-inspired psych-folkies, Lylas. And it’s not just Murfreesboro bands. St. Louis Garage rockers, The Gentleman Callers play as well. These guys sound like they just stepped out of the Nuggets box set. Come out and get your Jerk on. International Pop Overthrow Showcase @ The EndStarted in 1999, the International Pop Overthrow festival brings bands from around the world to play in a festival atmosphere. In this case, the atmosphere is The End and it’s somewhat smokey. Here’s the schedule for tonight: 8:30 The Explorers Club Friday, 17 March 2006Wilco @ the RymanAccording to Wilco’s website, the band’s spring tour will bring them to the Ryman Auditorium tonight. Ticketmaster and the Ryman have not listed the show yet, so ticket prices and details are still TBA. The band’s most recent release was last November’s Kicking Television: Live in Chicago, an excellent live performance that is definitely worth checking out if you’re a Wilco fan. The States / Gentleman Callers @ 5 SpotForget the green beer; get your rock on this St. Paddies Day. Murfreesboro’s The States play rhythmic rave-ups that borrow just as much from the 60’s as they do from the 80’s. The Gentleman Callers hail from St. Louis and play some great 60’s-inspired garage rock that would appeal to fans of The Woggles and The Greenhornes. |
