New Yacht Rock!

It’s kinda funny.

The Undertow Orchestra @ The Belcourt

Mark Eitzel (American Music Club), David Bazan (Pedro the Lion), Vic Chesnutt, & Will Johnson (Centro-matic) perform tonight at the Belcourt in a unique “in the round” setting.

Also featuring Centro-matic’s Scott Danbom on piano and violin, this full band setting will feature each of these enduring songwriters performing several of their individual songs with the other members backing them up. If you like very heavy (lyrically, not metallicly) melancholic songwriting involving drugs, whores, booze, and God… don’t miss this one.

first look: the new De Novo Dahl

Promo photos of the new De Novo Dahl have appeared on local photographer Jonathon Kingsbury’s Myspace page. If you can see through the facial cream, you might just be able to make out who these new members are after all…

Also, DND is blogging about their new recordings, three of which should be online for us in the next month. An excerpt reads:

At the beginning of Day 4 (Thursday), we put most of the finishing touches on “Shout.” This blogger is predicting Shout to be the most catchy of the new batch. It features everyone in the band singing some gang vocals, 4-part harmonies, serious fuzz bass, and giant drums among other things.

Later in the day we began recording another new song called “Market Place.” Not to over-hype, but I have to say that it’s the most ambitious De Novo Dahl song to date. I must admit, it gave me chills a little bit. Think DND with an orchestra. I’ll leave it at that and let you listen for yourself.
