If you’ve heard of Gabe Dixon but haven’t heard his music, now’s a perfect opportunity. The Gabe Dixon Band website just recieved a nice makeover with over two dozen exclusive mp3’s. Additionally, Mr. Dixon has selflessly made every recording the trio has ever made available for free download. On break from touring with Loggins and Messina, Gabe will play a full band show in town in January. RIYL: Ben Folds, David Mead, Paul McCartney
Kurt Wagner, the mastermind behind the gang of rotating musicians know as Lambchop, is not afraid of difficult collaborations. From the unnerving Josh Rouse collaboration, Chester, to a guest spot on Morcheeba’s “What New York Couples Fight About which brilliantly showcased Wagner’s monotonous controlled baritone to perfect effect within a lyrical context, Lambchop’s associations are meant to push not pull. Now they’ve teamed up with the new laptop duo Hands Off Cuba, Scott Martin and Ryan Norris either both part of or singularly members of The Privates, Character, Lone Official, and the under looked precursor to this project ¡Slow Down Hero!.

North Korea’s Kim Jong Il wants to perform on American Idol. Sources close to him state that he wants to perform “I’m so pretty” from West Side Story. Apparently he will give up all nukes just to get his shot at stardom.

Up-and-coming Austin band SOUND Team come to the Basement tonight to treat Nashville to some keyboard-heavy rock goodness. Recently signed to Capitol Records, the band opened for the Arcade Fire at CMJ’s Summerstage this past September, at Win Butler’s personal request. Yup, this is also the same show that featured David Bowie joining AF on stage during their set.
If the Basement’s website can actually be believed, these mp3 blog darlings are actually playing a FREE show tonight at 9 p.m., along with Matthew Hartin, Escape Artists, Heather Morgan and “tba.” If this is true, you have absolutely no valid excuse for missing this show.
Listen to tracks off their latest EP, Work:
“Don’t Turn Away”
“It’s Obvious What’s Happening Here”
If you’re sixteen and love Canadian lesbian twin chick rockers, you’re totally in luck tonight. Indie duo Tegan and Sara will be playing Exit/In this evening - and you only have to be 16 to get in.
This show is actually rather exciting if you’re like me and skipped their July appearance at Dancin’ in the District due to the excessive heat.
Rachael Cantu and Vivek Shraya open; doors are at 8 p.m. and tickets are $15.
Tomorrow night, Austin’s SOUND Team will come though town and make an appearance at the Basement’s New Faces Night. Recently signed to Capitol Records, the band has been stirring up a bit of a buzz with their unique brand of layered, synth-laden rock, even sharing the stage with the likes of The Walkmen and The Arcade Fire.
If the free cover alone isn’t enough to pique your interest, hopefully a little more info about this interesting six-piece will bring you out to the Basement on a Tuesday. Bill Baird, the band’s bass player, was nice enough to answer a few questions for NashvilleZine.
