Casio Casanova Merch Sale

Help a brother out. Casio Casanova is liquidating his inventory, so to speak. You can buy a t-shirt for $12 and get a CD for free. Hit him up through his MySpace page to take advantage of his deal.

Sports Talk

If you weren’t aware, Ryan of the Carter Administration is a football fan. This Monday, the 31st, Ryan will appear on 104.5’s “Bud Zone” sometime between 8 and 10 pm. He’s been chosen to compete in a contest to be their next Broadcaster Under Development (B.U.D., get it?) It’s an American Idol sort of contest. Ryan gets 15 minutes on the air, listeners vote, and the winner gets a show on the station for 6 months. So tune in and vote early and often for Ryan.

De Novo Dahl Sells Out

So technically, we don’t know if it was a sellout, but De Novo Dahl certainly packed the Exit/In. The NashvilleZine correspondents arrived fashionably late and there was still a line around the block. It was pretty damn incredible. We enjoyed the show but we’ll let you weigh in in the comments. We’ve obviously not had enough beer if we’re online and sober enough to type.

Live Karaoke @ The 5 Spot

With the Punk Rock Party Band!!! Who are the Punk Rock Party Band, you ask? Members of The Marquee Moon Band, Z28, The Bang Up, The Lovecats, Glossary, and the Young Livers form the back-up band and you bring the voicebox. They’ve got a catalog filled to the brim with classic, 60’s and 70’s glam and punk, 80’s new wave and enough rock & roll attitude to fake their way through any thing you can throw at them. Plus, it’s a benefit for our own homegrown hit factory-the Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp!!!

New Silver Jews

Pitchfork reports on the new Silver Jews record being recorded here in Nashville. Featuring Brian Kotzur. That’s right: Kotzur.

Apollo Up!, The Carter Administration @Radio Cafe

Tonight, treat yourself to no less than FOUR bands at Radio Cafe in East Nashville (at the corner of Woodland and 14th). For your listening pleasure, we have two of Nashville’s sexiest bands, Apollo Up! and The Carter Administration. Then, we have two out of town bands that I really don’t know anything about but whose names are The Immortal Lee County Killers (from Alabama) and The Black Fire Revelation (from Louisiana). I’m guessing that they are rock bands and I’ve heard of The Immortal Lee… band before but I really don’t know what to say about them. Honestly, the only reason I’m writing this up is cos of the Nashville bands and my desire to get on their good sides so that i may, at some point, get to their bed sides.

The show will probably be somewhere between $5 and $6 and $your life. but i’m not even sure of that. All i know is the show time is 8pm SHARP and the local bands will be playing early in the night (maybe so that they can be done early and limber up for their night with me?)

here’s to hoping an audience isn’t the only thing to come out tonight at the show…

UPDATE: Word is, the Radio Cafe did double-book the 8 o’clock slot and it’s $7 to get in. So if you’re heading to the Carter/Apollo show, get there at 9.30.

Southern Bitch @ Mercy Lounge

Get ready to be knocked on your ass, Nashville. The hard rockin’ Athens based quartet Southern Bitch are coming to town. Just let me quote their bio: “Southern Bitch blends Crazy Horse crunch with searing guitar leads and earthy lyrics that, like Ronnie Van Zant’s best lines, are country as cornbread without having to wave flags or fight lost causes”. Hell yeah.

De Novo Dahl CD Release @ the Exit/In

This show might be the only local release to contend with the Features release. After a long wait and a few teaser songs on their website, De Novo Dahl are releasing Cats and Kittens on Theory 8 Records. 16 songs and 16 remixes is gonna make for a hell of an album. Opening up are Imagine Asians.

Asschapel / Keymaster / Cease Upon the Capitol @ Gentleman Jim’s

Three of the area’s deadliest bands converge for a night of ear-blistering raw power. Be there yo.

UPDATE: Asschapel broke up, On Command took their place. Now Gentleman Jim’s has been shut down (temporarily).

Character @ Rcktwn

If you’re not old enough to go to the big-boy shows tonight, you can always check out a whopper of a good indie rock show at Rcktwn. Character headline the evening. The ubiquitous Casio Casanova makes an appearance along with Backseat Goodbye, Don’t Die Cindy, and Big City Dreams.
