We at the staff of Murfreesbored and Nashvillezine have just learned of the passing of Jack Daves, who died last Sunday of heart failure. People know him best as the singer for Murfreesboro based bands The Secret Commonwealth and The Exotic Ones (who performed the theme song for the Nashville-based TV show Chiller Cinema). He was definitely a one of a kind person and will be very much missed by the community.
We recently chatted with the Murfreesboro based rock group The Velcro Stars. The results of our interview are reproduced here for you all to enjoy…

Oh hell, we signed up for that MySpace crap. You can find us here: http://profiles.myspace.com/users/6229369. Go ahead and make us your friend. We dare you.
UPDATE: How to tell that your young venture into MySpace has gone horribly awry:
Well, that was one hell of a weekend for shows. If you didn’t make it to one, we don’t know what’s wrong with you. Jetpack’s last show with Pete was pretty phenomenal… we may have a review coming.
In other news, we got spammed in the comments pretty decently this weekend. Rest assured, we’re aware when we get these comments so there’s really no need to leave comments drawing our attention to the spam — it’s just more for us to delete. Soon, we’re going to modify or change our software to avoid getting any spam.
As part of the Alleycat Lounge’s new Sunday evening music series, Colossal Head, which features Falls City Angels member Brandes Holcombe and former members of Uva Mala, will be performing. Opening the show will be the Ants, a band from Lawrence, KS that have been described as “an Americana version of Pavement”. Due to a lack of ethics and customer service on the part of the Alleycat Lounge, the Falls City Angels will no longer be performing. And please remember, when at the Alleycat, it would be wise to pay as you go.
The Gamits are a young band whose pop-punk carries less pretense than Jawbreaker, contains less goofiness than Green Day, and whose songwriting is more straightforward than both. The Queers have been rocking their Ramones-style punk for what quite literally seems like forever. 9 p.m.
Opening for Spoon a couple of months back, Thee Shams raised quite a ruckus with their vintage, blues-based rawk. This Cincinnati five piece will look to make you sweat in the Basement at Grimey’s, which shouldn’t be a problem considering the venue’s tight confines. With the Mattoid. 9 pm
There are three bands playing at the Muse tonight, and judging by their names alone, this could be an interesting show. If you are so inclined, check out Clist, Arson vs. Accident, and Victor Furious & the Murder of Men. 7 p.m., $5
Nashville’s premier garage rock combo, The Clutters, will be laying it down tonight at the Springwater. And coming all the way from Bloomington, IN, we would also like to introduce you to Tremendous Fucking, whose new EP How’s My Fucking? is sure to bring hours of listening pleasure to you and your family. Rounding out the bill is, surprise of surprises, Dave Cloud and the Gospel of Power. 9 p.m.
Fluid Ounces continue steadily down their comeback trail tonight at Liquid Smoke (on the square in downtown Murfreesboro). They’ll be playing songs from their new Vacant Cage Records release The Whole She-Bang.
