Sir Pizza-palooza @ Red Rose

We assume that this is the first ever Sir Pizza-palooza. We also assume that all the acts and bands featured have members that are employees there or have some kind of tie. All in all, it’s not a bad idea. I’d like to see what kind of rock and roll show a place like Dillards could put together. Probably not that good. So anyways, head down on a Sunday night to the Red Rose to catch Velcro Stars, z28, Tony Dance Tap Dance Extravaganza, Big Nurse, and Da Monet. As far as we know, there will not be a human freak sideshow.

Andrew WK @ Exit/In

Andrew WK is one of those rare polarizing musicians. You either love the guy or you don’t. Because of his intensity, there isn’t any room for half-measures. He plays the Exit/In tonight and you can pretty much bet that he’s going to do everything he can to party hard. Bring earplugs and cash for the Red Bull you’re going to need.

And check this out. From his website, you can print your own fliers for the show.. He promises to try to sign one if you bring it.

UPDATE: Popshot’s got a long-ass interview with Andrew WK.

Grimey’s Last Stand

In case you didn’t know, Grimey’s record shop is moving from its Bransford Ave locale to nicer digs on 8th Ave. May 30 is their last day of operation at the “classic” location and to mark the occasion they’re having a blow-out. There will be sales and “beer:30 will be in effect.” They plan to be up and running at 1604 8th Ave. South on June 2, but come out and say goodbye to the old house.

Still a Big Week for Feable Weiner

fwbogheads.jpg
Pictured Above: Feable Weiner deserve your attention

Taking a momentary break from the road hasn’t slowed down local pop princes Feable Weiner. This week they were the featured review in Marie and Elizabeth’s Nashville Scene column Stage Dive, and the ladies gave them quite the thumbs up. As if that wasn’t enough, the band’s video for the single “San Deem Us Ready” has been added to Comcast’s list of Featured Videos as part of their new On Demand service. For those unfamilar, it is somewhat like TiVo, where Comcast subscribers can watch a huge selection of movies, tv shows, concerts, and in this case music videos, all whenever you want, hence the name.

Mercator @ The Springwater

This night is the very night, wherein Mercator attempts to tear the Springwater down to a pile of rubble with their guitarpathic ruminations. Songs with no words, songs that rend time and space, songs that hurt, but only because your brain doesn’t understand what your glands understand. Your sexy glands. One might even say that Mercator is the 2nd coming of the Big Bang, but I won’t. Not here . . . not here . . .

This is the last show they will play before they break up. Again. And reunite in two months. They will be supporting the Eastern Seaboard . . . literally! Don’t miss it, especially if you don’t mind the smell.

The Pixies are coming! The Pixies are coming!

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to pee your pants. Rumor appears to have become fact, because pollstar.com and pixiesmusic.com are reporting that Charles Thompson, Joey Santiago, David Lovering, and Kim Deal will be performing at the Grand Ole Opry House on Wednesday, October 6th. No word on tickets yet.

Jimmy & The Teasers w/Slack @ Red Rose

Thank God for Jimmy and the Teasers. Or at least, Thank God for the Teasers. Jimmy we can take or leave. Their sleazy garage rock has a little rockabilly and a little surf and a lot of scantily clad women. Check out the vids and mp3s on their website.

Morrissey on Kilborn?

So what happened to Morrissey’s five-night stay on The Late Late Show? Craig announced Moz was sick on Monday and they played last year’s performance of “First of the Gang to Die,” same Tuesday and they played “Everyday is Like Sunday.” I missed Wednesday. But last night f-ing Blondie was on?

Morrissey-Solo.com seems to doubt the sick excuse.
