Monday, 2 January 2006Janet’s Top 15 AlbumsWRVU DJ and NashvilleZine contributor Janet Timmons counts down her top fifteen releases of 2005 in three parts. Friday, 30 December 2005Mike’s Favorite Records of 2005I don’t know if it was my lack of CD-buyin’ funds or just the general state of things nowadays, but I really can’t think of that many records from 2005 that really moved me. That being said, here are a few favorites, bite-sized and alphabetized. (read more…) Thursday, 29 December 2005Year End HaikusStylus Magazine gives us their year end list in the form of haikus. Some winners include: Devendra Banhart The Hold Steady Wednesday, 28 December 2005The Other Andy’s 2005 Round Up2005 was a great year for music in Nashville. In the 10+ years I’ve lived here, the local music scene and what it has to offer have never been this strong. Chuckle if you must. Here’s to the big fish not getting caught, the little fish getting bigger and hoping that we all don’t turn to fertilizer. Let me start off by saying there are a shitpot of records I did not hear and shows that I did not attend. Here are a few that made it on the radar. They’re listed in no particular order. Almost all of my favorite bands have broken up; I don’t care about hearing or seeing whoever just got five stars on Pitchfork; I was infinitely more excited about a new Target opening up a couple of miles from my house than I was about the fact that Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! Yeah! Yeahs! were playing down the street; and finally, I actually used the phrase “kids these days” in a sentence this year. Considering all of this, I haven’t seen enough live music or heard enough new recorded music to be considered qualified to compile a “best of” list, so I simply offer you my favorites of 2005: Monday, 3 January 2005We are hurting your managementWe certainly ruffled some feathers in our first nine months of existence. So we thought we’d take a look back and see what silliness people got all excited over in 2004… Friday, 31 December 2004Todd A’s Wrap UpIt occurs to me in retrospect that my Wrap Up doesn’t have much to say about live bands, venues, etc. But really, who wants to hear me join the chorus of people who say the 5 Spot is the best place to hang out in, fried chicken is good to eat and I’d like to nurse Ben Slack back to health? I mean, those are givens, aren’t they? So, read on for my wrap up of recorded music. Chris Slack’s Year End PancakesHere’s my somewhat collected thoughts on 2004. Thanks. Top 5 Injured Rockers of 2004Those of you who know me understand that I generally save my nursing skills exclusively for the care of women. However, when these top rockers were injured in 2004, I could not help but dream of being a rock star’s nurse. Who wouldn’t want to care for these hot rocker’s wounds and tend to their basic needs? I decided that the world would be a better place for music if I provided my nursing aid to these injured rockers. The top 5 injured rockers of 2004… |
