Spun Records is a local store that sells all manner of used vinyl and CDs, and also has a separate room that houses a large variety of DVD rentals, including independent films and a music section. It is located upstairs at 1701 Portland Ave., across from Athlete’s House and Belmont University, next door to the Circle K. It’s hours are Monday through Thursday 5pm-midnight, Friday 1pm- midnight, Saturday 12pm-idnight, Sunday 4pm-9pm. (615)386-4994.
Sure it’s a franchise but the CD Warehouse on 21st Ave tucked in the corner of 21st and Grand behind SubWay has the sloppy feel of mom & pop’s neighborhood record store. The staff usually has pretty fine recommendations and the close presence of Vanderbilt students in dire need of beer money assures some nicely-cared-for second-hand CDs, video games and DVDs. Especially DVDs. The CDs are nicely arranged too and less dusty than other new/used record stores.
